“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?”
Then the king will reply to them, “I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.
–Matthew 25:37-40–
The call to love our neighbor is something we take seriously at Trinity United Methodist Church. Just like growing in our love of God brings us closer together, growing in our love of neighbor brings us closer to God. We put our faith into action when we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, and visit the sick and imprisoned.
Within our Methodist tradition, we believe that we show this love in two ways. Acts of Mercy are the individual acts of charity that we offer to our brothers and sisters. Acts of Justice are the ways that we work in the broader society to bring forth positive change in the world so that we can all be a part of what Martin Luther King Jr. called The Beloved Community.
